Duckworth, Durbin Announce Over $300,000 to Help Minority-Owned Businesses in Chicago | U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois

January 15, 2020

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced $312,750 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) to help provide business consulting and development services to minority-owned businesses in Chicago. The Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council will use this funding to help provide resources to help minority-owned business generate increased financing, job creation and retention, contract opportunities and greater access to new and global markets.

“If we want to create new economic opportunities for working families, we need to make it easier for minority-owned businesses to access funding and development opportunities,” Duckworth said. “I’m proud to join Senator Durbin in this announcement and I will keep working with local advocates and federal officials to help encourage economic growth and create jobs across Illinois.”

“Today’s funding will help ensure that minority-owned businesses around Chicago have access to the technical assistance and resources needed to grow and prosper. The success of these businesses will in turn help our entire economy,” Durbin said. “Senator Duckworth and I will continue advocating for these important federal investments that foster economic development and create jobs.”
